Pre Season

Senior Pre Season Camp

Last Saturday our senior side went to Belair National Park for a boot camp run by 2018 assistant coach Ben Yeomans and five current members of the defense force.

The members are part of an organisation called Heroes on the Homefront which specialises in connecting veterans and their families to programs and family/community events as well as focusing on putting the needs of the veterans and their families first.

The players arrived at 8:45am in the pouring rain for some football drills as well as a range of commando drills. The theme of the day was ‘team first’ where players were challenged to play their role as part of a high functioning team, whilst under physical and mental fatigue.

The players then participated in a 2km tire flip in support of 22 year old Matt Williams fundraising efforts for brain cancer research. Matt has been flipping tyres all around the country and has raised $52,000 so far. He spoke to the players about the importance of looking after their mental and physical health and being proud of what they have achieved in life. In groups, everyone flipped the tyres from goal post to goal post 14 times. The West Adelaide Football Club will be supporting this charity during a game day in 2019.
