Presidents Message

Presidents Message

Dear West Adelaide Football Club members, supporters and our wider community,

The 2024 football season is upon us; and we have already had a taste of what is to come from our club this year with solid success from our SANFL W team, strong trial matches by our Senior mens and a great showing from our junior teams all round.

The focus for the club is the achievement of success, both on and off the field.

As a part of that journey to success, the Board promised at the 2023 AGM in January, to be transparent and open with our communications. It is, therefore, pleasing for me to be able to announce the following constitutional appointments:

  • The Vice-President for this year will be our Football Director, Chris Schmidt.
  • This year the Club will have two league directors, with both the President and Vice-President fulfilling this role to ensure maximum representation of WAFC to the SANFL.
  • The Honorary Solicitor was appointed at the 2022 AGM, and remains John Levy. (John will again fulfil the role of Chair of our Risk and Governance committee)

In addition to these mandatory requirements, the Board considered the development and formalisation of a series of committees. These committees will enable the Board to undertake critical planning activities and maintain the positive momentum of the last few months:

  • Football Committee – chaired by Chris Schmidt.
  • Finance Committee – chaired by Andrew Tickle.
  • Strategic Planning/Sustainability Committee – chaired by Alison Surjan.
  • Community Engagement Committee – co-chaired by Kristen Demetriou and Daniel Rossetto.

Over the next few months, these committees will be seeking expert advice, input and volunteers from within the WAFC membership – a direct result of feedback we received at the AGM to provide more opportunities for members to be involved.

I am proud to be the President of the West Adelaide Football Club, and to work alongside my colleagues to deliver results for you all. There is no doubt that the Club is facing some challenges – no sporting organisation has come through the COVID years unscathed. My simple message to you all is that the 2024 Board is committed to facing each challenge with courage, integrity, authenticity and a strong sense of our collective worth as a community.

On behalf of the Board, I wish you all a very happy Easter and look forwards to seeing you at our upcoming games across all leagues on Friday.

Regards,

Emma Grigson
