Drawing a Line Workshop

Last night the ZONTA Club of Adelaide Flinders held the Drawing a Line Workshop in the West Adelaide FC function room.

The workshop included an introduction of the Zonta Club and the important work they do in advocating for women who unfortunately fall victim to violence.

Did you know;

  • 1 in 3 women (31.1%) has experienced physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by a man they know.
  • 1 in 4 Australian women (23%) has experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner since the age of 15.
  • Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or domestic partner.

Special guest Derrick McManus also spoke about his personal experience dealing with domestic violence and other violence during his time on the police force. He spoke of the seriousness of the issue and how important it is to vocalise the problem and faciliate change to ensure we and our loved ones remain safe.

Some of our players were able to join in and support the cause by participating in the Clothesline Project part of the workshop, where people were encouraged to convey positive and supportive messages on T-shirts that are now displayed around the Club.

Head into Westies Bar & Bistro to see the clothesline and all the messages of support.
