Vale Bob Reidy

The West Adelaide Football Club mourns the passing of long time member Robert ‘Bob’ Reidy.

Bob was born in the Bloods heartland, the West End of Adelaide and played junior football for the Club. He was awarded a trophy playing Junior Colts in 1961. In Senior Colts, he played with Stan Costello and other greats of that period. Bob’s career with West Adelaide was cut short when a well known Torrens player claimed Bob was living in their zone; Bob had registered a false home address in order to continue playing with West. Bob was bound to West Torrens but did not enjoy his football there. Soon after Bob joined the Royal Australian Navy.

His contributions to the Club continued later in life when he had volunteer roles as League Assistant Property Manager in 2014 and 2015 and Reserves Time Keeper with his brother George in 2020.

The History Group were grateful recipients of his knowledge, time and computer expertise from the time he joined them in 2020 until his death and his efforts and company will be sorely missed by that Group.

Bob would often be seen in the stand with brother George on match day and they were regular attendees to “Chew the Fat” lunches and other functions at the Club.

Our thoughts are with Bob’s wife Debbie, his daughter Anita, Step-daughter Sharon and brothers George and Peter and his many friends at West Adelaide.

Vale Robert ‘Bob’ Reidy.
