Under 16s Coaches Report and Team Selections

Round 6 vs Central District at X-Convenience Oval, April 10th

This week saw us make the long haul to Elizabeth Oval to play the Bulldogs who had been looking for their first win for the season. Our season until now had seen us ‘so close’ on a number of occasions and we were looking to change that this week.

Ins this week included Jackson Green, Jayden Bubner, Max Jones, Max McKenzie, Judd Hansen, Darcy Hudson, Seb Gianquitto, Zac Callaghan and Angus Liebich.

Outs this week were Fionn Keane, Ethan Cain, Brock Hutchings, Keenan Kennedy, Toby Gabrisch, Toby Bywater, Jesse Schefe, Will Patton and Bailey White.

The first quarter was everything we had been threatening to produce each week this year. High intensity, competitive, fast and exciting football. Jackson Green blew the game open with 3 first quarter goals and we had 6 goals on the board before Centrals managed to kick one late in the quarter.

West 7.4 – 46 to Centrals 1.0 – 6

The second quarter was a more even affair with us kicking into the wind, but we still managed to out score the opposition with Max Downs dominating in the middle with 17 disposals, Charlie Haysman and Lukas Zvaigzne 14 each and Marcus Pavlic bobbing up with a couple of more to have 3 goals himself at the long break.

Half time: West 10.5 – 65 to Centrals 3.1 – 19

Zac Callaghan was fantastic in defense spoiling everything and Oscar Talbot was again solid down back. Combined with the smaller defenders James Redden, Seb Gianquitto, Jarred Jesson and Luke Tippins (Mr. Consistent) rebounding time and time again.

The 3rd quarter saw us extend the lead further with much of the heat out of the game and some fatigue setting in on the big space of Elizabeth Oval.

West: 12.8 – 80 to Central 4.4 – 28

With the game all but won we did see Centrals fight back in the last with a run of quick goals early in the quarter, but the margin was well beyond them. We settled again and ran out convincing winners. It was great to see Jackson Green, Jayden Budner, Marcus Pavlic and Kade Hilton score multiple goals for the game and again our wings in Judd Hansen and Charlie Haysman found plenty of football. Special mention to Max Downs who played his best game for the season finishing with 27 disposals (11 contested and 11 inside 50’s) and Lukas Zvaigzne (28 and 15 contested and 10 tackles)

Overall an excellent performance and reward for some excellent team play.

Final scores: West  14.8 – 92 defeated Central 9.7 – 61

Best players: Max Downs, L. Zvaigzne, Jackson Green, Luke Tippens, K. Hilton, J.Jesson, J.Bubner, C.Haysman

GoalKickers: J.Green 4, M. Pavlic 3, K.Hilton 2, J.Bubner 2, P.O’Donoghue, A.Liebich, M.McKenzie 1

Our under 16s play their final game of the year tonight at Sturt. We wish them the best of luck.
