U18’s Round 6 Match Report

Round 6 saw us play North Adelaide at home, who were yet to lose a game this season. Kade Hilton was selected for his first game of under-18 football for the club, and Jamie Kovacic returned for his first game of the year after injuring his knee in the pre-season. Jamie has been faultless in his rehab to ensure he was able to return so quickly. Special mention to Kobe Ryan, who after 5 tremendous weeks of U18 football was called up for his first reserves game. Those who saw that match would have seen he is an exciting prospect and played a great game at that level.

For the majority of the game we were able to stick to our focus areas and impact the stats that matter. The boys showed a good combination of offensive flair and defensive workrate that ensured we put up a good fight and were exciting to watch.

Unfortunately our second quarter wasn’t at the level required. We weren’t able to provide enough pressure at the contest and North were good enough to ensure they put a score on the board. After being down at half-time, our pressure was much better in the third quarter and we got back within a goal at the last change. Whilst we had some chances in the last quarter to draw level, North also missed some shots which would have put the game beyond doubt. We eventually fell short by just 8 points in a tight finish.

Tom Scully was dominant up forward kicking 7 goals for the third time this season. Tyson Coe led the midfielders with 32 disposals and 6 clearances. Harry Barnett was influential both in the ruck and around the ground with 22 disposals, and Kade Hilton was impressive with 21 disposals from a forward role. Finn Higham and Will Patton combined with the defensive group to ensure the game remained tight throughout.

Whilst we are disappointed to lose, I know we are very close and battled it out well against a quality outfit. We will continue to tidy up some areas of our game to ensure we develop in the weeks to come. This week we return to Woodville to face the Eagles and we look forward to the challenge. The game is on Saturday at 12:45pm. Hope to see some of you there.
