Statewide Super League Top 50 – No.23

By ZAC MILBANK

Few would argue the importance of Kaine Stevens to the fortunes of the West Adelaide Football Club.

The Bloods’ prolific premiership midfielder regularly attracted the opposition’s best run-with player yet still managed to deliver 2019 averages of 27 disposals, four marks, five tackles and five clearances.

A key member of last year’s victorious West End State team, Stevens also finished runner-up, behind Logan Hill, in the Neil Kerley Medal count for Bloods best-and-fairest.

Since arriving from Canberra for the start of the 2014 season, Stevens has not only proven his consistency but also his durability in missing just three League matches since the start of the club’s 2015 premiership campaign.

Boasting an exceptional aerobic capacity, Stevens loves to run hard in order to find his possessions before carrying the ball across lines for his beloved Bloods.

His presence will continue to be vital as West coach Gavin Colville continues to usher through the next generation of senior players at Hisense Stadium.

Selected by SANFL Media Producer Zac Milbank, the 2020 Statewide Super League Top 50 is being unveiled one player at a time on the League’s website and social media channels.

For incumbent SANFL players, form across the 2019 season was used as a significant factor in the selection process, with selection in The Advertiser Team of the Year, West End State squad, club leadership group and placings in club best-and-fairest weighing heavily.

This is to ensure there is meaningful movement of player rankings between each year’s Top 50 list at the start and end of the season.

Recruits to the Statewide Super League for 2020 have also been included, with significant AFL experience, performance at State League level and their predicted impact proving critical in deciding the order of players.
