Sharnie Whiting joins the Bloods

The West Adelaide Football Club is excited to welcome Sharnie Whiting to our SANFLW team. Sharnie was drafted at pick number 36 to Carlton in 2019 from the Williamstown Seagulls.

Known for her elite ball use and clean hands, Sharnie will be a great asset to our women’s side.

Sharnie began her AFL journey when she was 10 years old playing until she was in under 14s with boys’ teams. Speaking about how she transitioned into Youth Girls and beyond, Sharnie said, “During my time playing youth girls I was fortunate enough to be picked up by the Western Jets (TAC CUP) which is a representative squad for the western region.”

“From there, I was approached and offered a contract to play VFLW with Williamstown FC and after playing 2 years there I was drafted to Carlton FC in the AFLW.”

“After being told about how good Moods was and how awesome the group of girls are, I was really excited and wanted to be a part of the club. I am really excited about coming to Adelaide and seeing what we can achieve in the 2021 season.”

When asked how she would describe herself as a player Sharnie said, “I would describe myself as a versatile player. I really enjoy playing in both the forward line and backline and sometimes midfield.”

“I am able to use both sides of my body to dispose of the ball which I believe is very important. I also have a long kick. I am very good at reading the play as well as being very clean and precise”

Sharnie’s goals for the future would be to get back into the AFLW system and play football at the highest league possible.

“For myself, I would personally like to develop my leadership and communication skills to better myself as a player. I am really looking forward to working with Moods, the coaching staff, the girls, and everyone involved with the club to help better myself but also the team as a whole.”

Welcome to West Adelaide Sharnie!
