SANFLW Match Report – Round 8

After an impressive win last weekend against Norwood, our SANFLW girls were eager to carry that momentum into our Round 8 clash vs North Adelaide at Prospect Oval. A few forced changes including Georgie Pater (concussion) and Tiana Fernandez (quad) left us a little light on in defense but welcomed the return of Captain Madi Russell and Ella Maxwell into the selected side.

It didn’t take long before Emma Chapman put the first goal on the board, returning to Prospect Oval against her old side for the first time. North Adelaide generated numerous inside F50 entries but fortunately weren’t able to capitalise with 3 behinds for the quarter to our 1 goal straight.

The 2nd quarter was big for our girls, kicking the next 2 goals of the game to get us out to a 3-goal lead half way through the quarter. North were able to get one back before another goal to Lucy Waye (her first SANFLW goal) got us back to a 3-goal lead going into the main break.

Only 2 more goals were kicked for the game, with Bec Hansen kicking a nice running goal to put us 4 goals up. North Adelaide kicked one back in the dying stages of the 3rd before a scoreless last quarter saw us walk away with a 17-point win.

Hannah Button was awarded the club’s Spirit of ANZAC Medal for Best on Ground which was donated to the club by Ken Duthie after her relentless style of footy was a big contributor to our win. Zoe Venning notched up another 25 touches, while young midfielder Asha Dufour also got a season high 29 disposals. Tess Huxtable was also important in the ruck and was able to get her hands on the football around the ground.

The girls are looking forward to a weekend off before we are on the home stretch towards hopefully playing our first finals series since 2021. Sitting a game clear in the Top 4 currently, we know we need to keep momentum and playing consistent footy.
