SANFLW Development League Match Report – Round 6 vs Norwood

Round 6 saw us face Norwood who were top of the development league and currently undefeated and we knew it would be a huge challenge.

The first quarter saw us play some excellent team football controlling most of the play. Unfortunately, as has been our problem for the whole season, we were unable to get any reward for effort and at the 13 minute mark, Norwood finally broke the goal drought with their first goal and took a one goal lead into the break.

Despite our endeavour in the 2nd quarter, Norwood had some very good players who were able to dominate the marking contests and finish in front of goal.  They stretched their lead into the main break and still saw us goalless and trail by 19 points.

Tiana Fernandez was our best on the wing and Annie Brearly, Molly Petersen, Lucy Waye and Sarah Campbell were working tirelessly around the ball.

The 3rd quarter demonstrated why Norwood was the undefeated side as they kicked a further four goals before we finally scored when Abbie Butler marked and found Tash Callary who converted after the siren.  This saw us trail by 39 points at the last change.

A real positive for the quarter was seeing young Chloe Tonkin move down back and being able to impact in the air and compete strongly against the Norwood talls.

The final quarter again saw us control most of the play but like the first quarter we were unable to score. We restricted Norwood to one goal but suffered a significant defeat by 44 points.

The scoreboard really didn’t give justice to the effort and team play that we executed on the day. Throughout the game we played some very good team football and displayed some excellent ball movement. Our inability to score has continued to be our problem throughout the season.

We enter the last round facing Central Districts, who are winless, as we will look to finish the season on a positive note.
