Russell Ebert Tribute Match

The West Adelaide Football Club is proud to announce our home game against Port Magpies will be a tribute match in honour of the late Russell Ebert. A legend of SA Football, Russell significantly influenced many players, clubs, and communities including the West Adelaide Football Club. This tribute match seeks to honour the tremendous legacy Russell has left in the football world.

“It means a lot to us as a family, having all originated from Loxton…It’s a great opportunity to have Port Adelaide, West Adelaide, Loxton and Waikerie, all the different teams he played for, all joining together for a great celebration.”
– Tammie Kernich (Daughter of Russell Ebert).

Russell’s earlier football clubs, Loxton Football Club and Waikerie Football Club, will also be part of this momentous day as their A-Grade sides will play off in a curtain raiser match.

This match is particularly exciting for our Club as it provides a terrific opportunity to strengthen our ties with our Riverland community. We wish to thank the District Council of Loxton Waikerie for their continued support in providing us with this opportunity to play in their region.

“To celebrate the life of Russell Ebert with his family, beloved football clubs, as well as the wider Riverland community is a privilege for the West Adelaide Football Club. We are extremely excited about coming to the Riverland; it is certainly one of our most anticipated matches for the season. With the signing of Hamish Hartlett [Port Adelaide AFL player] who returns to West Adelaide in 2022, and local star Kaiden Brand also signed on, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to showcase our talented players to local audiences as well as pay tribute to a great legend of the game. Like Port Adelaide and SANFL, the District Council of Loxton and Waikerie did not hesitate to validate such a fitting occasion, and we are very grateful for the support they are all giving to ensure a match day to remember.”
– West Adelaide CEO, Conny Wilson
