Remembering Past Bloods

On Friday night this week our Under 18’s were scheduled to play Woodville – West Torrens. This match annually has become a significant part of our football calendar as we honour and pay tribute to past Under-18 players who have sadly passed away whilst part of the Under 18 program at our club.

‘We have spoken about the significance of the week to our playing group and are ensuring it is front of mind with everything we do. The thought of anything happening to young men like this is heartbreaking. I am proud of the way our current group are determined to honour those who have passed.’

Talent & Development Manager / Under 18 Coach, Paul Streatfield

There is a permanent tribute in the race leading to the oval that remembers and honours the contribution that Jake Watson, Glenn Knott, Ben Mitchell & Corey Siemers made to our football club.

This game, playing for the Jake Watson Shield is something that our group take extremely seriously and, although we are unable to play it at this point in time, will be making every effort to ensure the boys are remembered at a future game this season when we play the Eagles.

‘This football club is more than just a club, it’s a family. It has provided so many opportunities for not only myself but all my teammates. The friendships I have formed whilst being involved in this program will last a lifetime.

This week is so important for us as it is a way for us to give back and show support ensuring the families affected by these tragedies feel the love of the club and to guarantee the boys memories live on.

It really shows the true “wolf pack” mentality of the footy club, we are all in it together, one big family.’

Under 18 Captain, Harvey Bock

‘The boys were just like us, a part of a footy club committed to doing their best and contributing to the team. Such a tragic reminder of how quickly it can all end so suddenly. We will be thinking about the boys especially this week.’

Under 18 Vice-Captain, Ed Van den Berg

With the revised SANFL fixture looming, we will ensure the memorial game is confirmed early and communicated to all so we can pay our respects on the field.
