Moody’s Match Report – SANFLW Round 6

Wow what difference a week makes, after a heavy week on the training track our girls hit the ground running on Easter Saturday.

Playing at the best stadium in Australia – Adelaide Oval our Westies girls hit South with everything.  We dictated from start and really intimidated the South Adelaide. This was lead from Kate Walsh in the ruck, and our skipper Bec Owen off the wing. Our onballers had been beaten over the past couple of weeks, but Saturday they were on and it showed in clearances and general play all over the ground.

Madi Russell and Keeley Kustermann were outstanding in the back line and the return of Maddi Newman from the Crows was just what we needed. Her elite foot skills were definitely on show. Our forward line was just fantastic with Mel Elsegood returning to the line up scoring 2 goals. One of these goals was from a strong contested mark in front of goal. Kaisa Culhane was outstanding in the forward line her attack on the ball and tackling was just sensational. Sharnie Whiting gave us another avenue to goal.

The 2 stars this week were definitely Louella McCarthy and Chelsea Biddell, Chelsea back from the crows and she showed all that her marking and kicking skills are of elite status. We hope this gets her a start in next weeks AFLW final. Louie McCarthy showed the Westies girls and the competition what she can do, her foot skills are elite and she is very clean below her knees.

On a side note this 37 point win against South was the 1st time we have beaten them in our short history, we now head to our break and are back in the top 4 and setting our sights on our next opponent Sturt.
