Moody’s Match Report: Round 11

Our last minor game saw us head to Noarlunga to play South for a spot in this year’s final series, nothing less than a win would do.

For three quarters we were the best team, we played great one on one footy and lead most of the stats. At ¾ quarter time we lead comfortably by 21 points and looked liked we had the game in our keeping.

However the last 17 minutes was dictated by South, they took away domination and scored easily to reduce the lead to one point with 3 minutes to play. For 2 ½ minutes our girls withstood the pressure and played tempo footy sensationally, however a stoppage on centre wing with 30seconds play caused an anti-density decision to be made and consequently a free kick awarded to South at their 50m mark.

The free kick was taken quickly by South and thankfully for Westies it was marked by Sarah Dargan. She was awarded a 25m penalty due to interference in the contest, this used up ALL time giving Westies the win and securing third spot. For the second year in a row Westies girls have made the finals, we look forward to taking on South again this week. Our best player for this week was young gun Zoe Venning who was well supported by Lauren Young, Sharnie Whiting and defenders Niamh Davis, Hannah Scholar, Maddi Russell, Tiarna Harfield and Taylor Jayne.

Bring on this week’s finals.
