Moody’s Match Report – Round 10

This week saw us head to Prospect to play last years premiers, needing a win to stay in contention for a finals berth.  The Westies girls produced their best performance of the year to beat the current premiers by 20 points.

This weeks performance was a true team effort, with ALL players playing their part in this victory. Westies held the premiers goalless for the first half of footy kicking 2 goals themselves. Our defence was outstanding lead by Sharnie Whiting. Sharnie collected 22 disposals and had 7 marks, and most of her marking was done at telling times throughout the game.

We had contributors all over the ground, however no more than our number one ruck Kate Walsh. Her ruck work was outstanding and her work around the ground topped off a great performance. Ailish Considine continued her great form collecting another 15 touches. Her influence around the ground was outstanding and her long penetrating kicks into our forward line was exceptional. Kasia Culhane was given the task to nullify a North defender and reduce her defensive rebound, the defender averaging 6 rebounds per game, Kaisa reduced her to 1 this week. Kasia performance was outstanding, and she sacrificed her own game for that of the team.

We had several contributors, Bec Owen, Zoe Venning, Tiarna Harfield, Lauren Young, Abbie Ballard, Niamh Davis, Sarah Dargan and Chelsea Biddell. Chelsea was again a great target up forward always commanding two defenders, Chelsea had several shots on goals finishing the day with 1 goal 1.

The win now places the Westies girls back into the top 4 with a very big chance of finishing the year in third spot if we are successful over South Adelaide this weekend at Noarlunga.
