Bec Owen named as 2021 Women’s Captain

The West Adelaide Football Club is happy to announce our women’s captain for 2021 is Rebecca Owen.

Bec has paved a very good reputation as a hard-running midfielder and very good player both defensively and offensively over her time at West Adelaide.

After having an ACL reconstruction, Bec missed the 2020 season but assisted the coaching group as opposition coach.

Women’s coach Mark Moody spoke highly of Bec saying, “Bec does not shy away from her genuine love for this footy club, its players and the drive to ensure we promote our club values.”

“Bec will lead this club at the highest level ensuring no rock left unturned, and hoping to lead her beloved Westies into another finals series.”

When asked about her new role as Captain, Bec said, “I feel very honoured and privileged to be selected by the team and coaching staff as the captain of the women’s teams for the 2021 season.”

“I am looking forward to leading the girls to another successful season and am hopeful this year we can go all the way.”

Abbie Ballard has been named as vice-captain after coming off another successful season dominating the midfield.

Mark Moody said, “Abbie was joint vice-captain in season 2020, during which her leadership skills shone. Abbie handles the pressure of a leader very well and working with previous captain Lauren Rodato has enhanced this even further”

Abbie has been chosen as a top up player with Adelaide Crows on the back of two outstanding seasons in the SANFLW.

Bec and Abbie are joined by Gretel Ramsey, Madison Russell, Zoe Greer, Kasia Culhane and Ashlea James to make up the 2021 leadership group.
