We are thrilled to announce our senior men’s leadership group who will lead us into the 2023 season.
Congratulations to Kaiden Brand who was voted in as captain by his fellow teammates and coaches, with the news officially announced to the group recently.
After returning to West Adelaide last season, Kaiden has made a significant impact on the field with his voice and knowledge of the game that he passes on to his younger teammates.
Kaiden will be supported by existing leadership group members Josh Ryan and Jordan Boyle. While new members Mitch Maguire, Sam May, Lucas Meline and Isaac Johnson have all been rewarded by their teammates and coaches and round out an exciting leadership group.
We asked Kaiden a couple of questions regarding his appointment as captain for the West Adelaide Football Club.
How are you feeling after being named captain of the West Adelaide Football Club?
“I’m very honoured to have been voted by the boys to be their captain. To be a leader of the club that gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams as a youngster is a great privilege and something I’ll certainly look back on and be proud of in years to come”.
How has the transition of new senior coach Adam Hartlett been?
“Harts has been outstanding! His passion and ability to teach his methods and principles has been at an elite standard and I’m really looking forward to working with him to help develop some of our younger players coming into senior footy. He’s got great support staff around him from assistants to S&C’s and while we’ve been putting in some really hard yards the boys have enjoyed every minute and their intent has been at an elite level which is exciting”.
Which player has been lighting up the track this pre-season?
“There have been a number of standouts so I won’t single out anyone in particular but there’s certainly going to be some fresh faces impressing early this year in senior footy”.
How do you feel about the leadership group? With JR, Jordan Boyle and new members Sam May, Lucas Meline, Mitch Maguire and Isaac Johnson?
“Couldn’t be anymore excited to be working with this group. There are a few that have come through the junior program in Sam May and Isaac Johnson which is really exciting for the club and also some of the guys that have really been setting the standard for the footy club over the last few years. While I’m currently still working through my concussion symptom recovery, I’ve got a really strong group behind me that will continue to drive the standards while I work towards getting back on the park at full capacity.
