We travelled to Flinders University Stadium for our Round 6 fixture.
We began the game on a positive note, securing an early goal thanks to Jonty Koehne’s relentless defensive pressure. Despite our continued efforts, we struggled to gain territory resulting in limited scoring opportunities.
Our performance in the second term was disappointing. We regrettably eased off in our defensive efforts and cohesion, placing immense pressure on our defenders. Consequently, we entered the break trailing 2.1 to 9.3.
Following halftime, there was an increase in our effort level, which allowed us to intermittently slow down South Adelaide’s advances, providing some relief for our defenders.
Despite our best efforts in the final quarter, we fell short of maintaining the required intensity to win one-on-one battles. South Adelaide capitalized on this, extending their lead with an additional five goals, resulting in a significant margin by the game’s end.
Ben Jeffries rightfully earned our Anzac Medal, generously donated by Ken Duthie, for his outstanding defensive contributions. Throughout the game, Tom Kain and Jonty Koehne competed well. Joel Parker persevered admirably in a challenging high forward role, while Gus Downs demonstrated versatility by adapting to various positions on the field due to unforeseen circumstances.
Next week we face Central Districts at X Convenience Oval with the under 16’s following our game on Saturday.
Best: Ben Jeffries, Tom Kain, Jonty Koehne, Joel Parker and Gus Downs
