Vale Desmond Barton Merkel

The West Adelaide Football club, Past Players & Officials are sad to announce the passing of a real character of the Bloods in Desmond Barton Merkel.

Des passed away peacefully on Saturday the 25^th of March 2023, aged 89.

He dedicated a huge amount of time to the club. In 1978 he joined the committee of the Westonians, going on to serve 12 years.

A special human with a heart of gold, donating dressing gowns to our reserves in 1978.

The Past Players & Officials were very fortunate to have his assistance over many years.

He wasn’t shy of giving his advice on how to improve the performance of our teams either. He was truly a passionate member of our club and will be sadly missed.
Our thoughts are with Heather Keith, his family and many of his friends.
