Our Round 9 fixture we traveled to Coopers Stadium.
Again, we competed really well in the first term getting some nice forward entries and giving the taller forwards a chance with some space. Our smaller forwards also provided good support at ground level which gave us an opportunity to get some good time in our forward half. Unfortunately, we didn’t condense the field behind the ball enough at times and let the opposition get the ball back in between the arcs which then made us work hard to get a repeat entry. Overall, we were reasonably happy with the scoreboard reading 4.4 to 2.2.
In the second term we battled hard but were unable to execute the fundamentals well enough under the oppositions pressure around the contests which resulted in Norwood getting the game on their terms. What was pleasing was the effort by the group remained at a good standard and we went into the half time break 2 points down.
The second half, we again competed well and we gave ourselves enough chances to score but were unable to generate enough time and space to get high percentage shots on goal which resulted in some rushed chances, hence some inaccurate goal kicking. We were outscored by 6 points in the second half to go down by 8 points at the final siren.
Riley Hill put in another good performance. Harley Campbell played his role very well and Charlie Haysman has been very consistent over the last month.
This week we host Sturt at Hisense Stadium and have another opportunity to bring the effort required and execute the fundamentals under pressure.
