We hosted Eagles at Hisense Stadium for the annual Jake Watson shield game.
The game was fast paced from the start, with both teams applying strong pressure and causing early turnovers. At times, we played too quickly, which made it difficult to maintain possession. The Eagles managed to settle into the game faster, creating more scoring opportunities.
In the second quarter, we played more like we wanted the game to look, maintaining solid contest work and handling the ball better. This led to us outscoring the Eagles 4.1 to 2.2, giving us a 5-point lead at halftime.
However, in the third quarter, we lost some crucial one-on-one contests, particularly behind the ball, which resulted in easy goals for the Eagles and increased pressure on our side. This saw us trailing by 33 points at the three-quarter time break.
To the boys’ credit, their effort remained high in the final term. We executed our ground ball work well and outscored the Eagles 3.4 to 2.1, but ultimately, we fell short by 24 points.
This week is our last game of the season against North Adelaide and the boys will be keen to finish on a good note.
