Round 3 Match Report – West Adelaide vs. South Adelaide
West Adelaide 7.7.49
South Adelaide 12.12.84
On Sunday, we traveled to Noarlunga for our Round 3 clash against South Adelaide in good conditions. We had a clear focus on a few key areas heading into the game, and I was pleased with the playing group’s intent to execute these at a high standard.
The match was an arm wrestle for most of the first three quarters, with our defenders holding up well under South Adelaide’s fast forward entries. Our stoppage work showed improvement from previous weeks, but we struggled to chain out effectively and generate enough attacking momentum. We weren’t able to sustain pressure on the opposition’s defence for long enough, whereas South Adelaide maintained their intensity and capitalised in the final quarter, kicking five quick goals to put the game out of reach.
Individually, Jaylen and Tom were solid in defence, playing their roles well. Gus Downs was again a standout in the midfield, while Logan McCabe had an impact on the wing, winning key contests and driving us forward. Up forward, Mitch Marsh competed strongly all day and finished with three goals.
This week, we return home to face Sturt in what will be another great challenge for our squad. We continue to focus on developing key areas of our game, and we look forward to the opportunity to improve again.
