On Saturday our Under 16’s played the Glenelg Football Club for the second time at Hisense Stadium. With the return of few players back from the College system we were hoping for a much more concerted effort than what we showed the week prior against Central Districts.
One of our key focuses has been getting out of the blocks in respects to impacting the scoreboard early and having the game played on our terms. This has been a real area of concern where we have been chasing the game from the outset, unfortunately, this week was no different with Glenelg kicking 5 goals to our 1 in the first quarter and was ultimately the difference between the two sides. On a pleasing note, we outscore Glenelg 7.8 to 5.9 for the remainder of final three quarters to go down narrowly by 12 points. If not for some wayward kicking in front of goals and kicking 6 out bounds attempts on goal the result could have potentially been significantly different.
In saying this our boys are very resilient and continue to show up, stick to the process, and proudly play for each other and the club at large which is all we can ask of them, despite not getting the required outcome we hope for, but it is all about their development to ultimately play League football for the West Adelaide Football Club.
Once again, our Captain Ryan McAulay lead the way with a best on ground performance accumulating 28 touches and kicked 3.3. He was well supported from the back half by Cameron Wildy who gathered 24 possessions and Jaxon Levin’s return to the side was instrumental both on ball and for his forward half pressure was significant to enable us to retain the ball in our forward 50 after quarter time.
This week we have a weekend free with no SANFL games scheduled until our night twilight fixture on Tuesday May 21 versus North Adelaide at Hisense Stadium commencing at 5.00pm.
Finally, congratulations to the following boys who have been selected to represent South Australia at the Under 15 National Championships held on the Gold Coast in late July and early August.
