Our Under 16’s travelled to X-Convenience Oval on Saturday to play Central Districts in our Round 6 fixture looking to make an improved account on last meeting against Centrals in Round 3.
Our side saw significant changes to the team line-up with several college players unavailable due to the commencement of the 2024 College program, unlike our opposition who are not as affected by having college players in their squad.
Unfortunately, we were very slow out of the blocks allowing Centrals to kick the first 3 goals inside 6 minutes and that put us on the back foot from the outset and trailed by 25 points at quarter time. A similar theme occurred across the remain 3 quarters allowing Centrals to control the contest and not allowing us to gain any momentum or scoreboard impact.
Centrals were cleaner, first to the ball and their ability to use the football was far superior on the day. What our boys will take away and learn is the level that’s required to be competitive against the better teams in the competition. A focus still needs to be consistency of application. We show and play good football in patches but not to the mark the better sides do on regular basis.
As for our best players Josh Wooldridge continues to be a shining and consistent light this year accumulating 24 possessions, 6 tackles, 4 clearances and kicking 2 goals to be a standout along with our Captain Ryan McAuley and Jack Mrozowski who both worked tirelessly in the midfield.
Looking ahead, the focus shifts to our next challenge against Glenelg back at home next Saturday.
