The Under 16’s won their first game of the 2024 season winning by 72pts against Norwood undelights at the Parade. There was not a lot between the 2 sides at quarter time with Norwood holding a 3-point lead at the break but there was a wind that favoured the end they kick to first. We kicked the first two goals of the game and we held up well going into the break. The second quarter saw us take control of the game and have the game played on our terms and we took a handy 17-point advantage into the main break. The margin could have been significantly greater if not for inaccurate conversion in front of goals kicking 4.5 for the term.
A defensively strong 3rd quarter by the boys across all the lines in particular our ability to turn the ball over forward of centre enabled us to take a strangle hold of the game holding Norwood to 2 points while we kicked 3.2 into the breeze, holding a very handy 35-point lead going into the last quarter.
The last quarter saw us run strongly across all our lines off the back of some excellent clearance work from our midfielders. Our backline ran strongly and fed to our presenting forwards who converted in front of goals. The dominance of our last quarter and in particular the boys decisive use of the ball enabled the team to kick 7.2 to Norwood’s 1.1.
As for our best players Lawrence Andriani was very good in the midfield with 30 possession, 13 tackles, 10 clearances and was well supported up forward by Jeremy Moss who kicked 5 goals, Daniel Annese continued his good form winning the ball in the contest and use off half back and Tyce Lush defended well in his first game across half back.
Coming up this week we play a top 4 team in South Adelaide away at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday from 11:00am.
