Preparation was a little different for a Wednesday evening match against South Adelaide for Round 16.
Our focus was to get the game played on our terms which became difficult with South putting extra numbers at each stoppage, this was a challenge we needed to work through and focus on what we could control.
In a low scoring game we took a 2 goal lead into half time where we spoke about continuing our game style and from a statistical perspective we were slightly ahead in our key metrics.
The inside clearance battle continued in the second half however we were able to get on top when the ball got to the outside of the contest with Jaylen Sochacki in particular dominating his wing role.
In a game that ebbed and flowed all night we managed to get 20 points up in the last quarter however we took the foot off the pedal and let South come back at us hard to get within a kick late in the game. Thankfully our defence held strong for the final minutes and we were able to be in front at the final siren.
After the game we asked the players for feedback on what we could have done better in the final quarter and we will review these before the next round to continue our development individually and as a team.
Jaylen was clearly our most influential player on the night with Joseph Raphael and Gus Downs also having a significant contribution.
