On Saturday our Under 16’s played host to Centrals Districts in our Round 13 clash at Hisense Stadium. We went into the round very flat from our disappointing showing the week prior against Norwood and knowing that Centrals have had our measure on our two previous meetings by significant margins.
In what was an arm wrestle in the first quarter with the game played between the two arcs, we took a 2-point lead into the quarter time break, built upon some strong contested work.
One of our key drivers over the course of the season has been focusing on consistency of application and playing a full 23-minute quarter of football against the opposition. In the second quarter we continued our strong contested and defensive work to take a 2-point lead into the main break.
We came out after half time switched on, we did not allow Centrals to get their running game going and we kick three goals apiece in the third to be 4-points up. We should’ve been further in front if we executed our good chances in front of goal.
Our last quarters have been reasonably good this year, and our lads could sense and feel an upset was looming if we continued to apply our pressure across our lines. I was very thrilled with the way the boys took up the challenge in the last term and managed to kick 3 goals and limiting Centrals to only 1 goal. The final result was a 19 point win in our favour.
Saturday’s results and performance provides a clear indication of the learning and understanding our squad continues to develop and provides us with a much-needed boost for the week ahead as we prepare for the Eagles next Saturday at Maughan Them Kia Oval.
