On Saturday the Under 16’s Competition resumed after the double bye to play Sturt at Hisense Stadium.
As has been the consistent theme for our squad in 2024 we have not been very slow out of the blocks against many sides. Unfortunately, Saturday was no different in wet weather conditions as we did not cope well with Sturt’s pressure and superior skills set. We failed to score a major in the first half and only managed to register a behind compared to Sturt’s 7.12. While we accept what might be the scoreboard result, what we will not accept is a lack of intent and effort and for the most part that what was on display which from our behavioral framework was unacceptable.
After a strong message was delivered to our boys at half time regarding our pride as a group, decision making, disposal efficiency and ultimately challenging their desire to want to win the contest, we saw a significant change in attitude and method with a renewed appetite for the contest, allowing us to show a more consistent application seeing us narrowly loose the second half 5.2 to 5.5.
This weekend we host Norwood at home and has been the only team we have defeated in season 2024. The boys will be keen to work hard on the track in readiness for a Norwood team who has yet to win a game and we need to be at our best to ensure we play 4 quarters of committed football to get the result we desire.
