The Under 16’s made it three wins from their last four with a 7-point victory over Woodville-West Torrens at Hisense Arena.
In stark contrast to the last time, we played the Eagles on their home ground where the conditions were extremely heavy afoot it was a balmy sunny day at Richmond. Our boys got out of the blocks well and took the contest up to the opposition kicking 4 goals to 2 taking a 12-point lead at quarter time. Our contest, pressure and teamwork continue to be a strength in the second half of our season along with our defensive back brigade continually frustrating and thwarting the forward movements of the Eagles. We head into the main break a goal in front.
A defensively strong 3rd by the Eagles see’s us held to one point for the quarter as they kick 1 goal 4 giving them the lead by 3 points going into the final term.
The boys were really disappointed with their efforts in the third quarter and responded in stirring fashion to kick 4 goals in 10 minutes to put the game beyond the Eagles. The shift in momentum was built upon our midfield dominating the centre clearance and goals coming from Ryan McAulay 2, Dean Hatedakis and Lawrence Andriani leading the charge.
Lachlan Keynes in ruck was excellent all day and provide our midfield with first use to the ball and was arguably our best on ground. Lawrence Andriani had a day out collecting 29 possessions, 6 clearances, 4 tackles and 1 goal. They were both well supported by Calvin Jones in defence who as an underage continues to impress to be a big defensive stopper and relishes to take on the big opposition key forwards each week, finishing with 15 possessions and 6 marks.
Coming up this week we play our last game for the season against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval. We look forward to the challenge and aim to finish the season on a strong note.
