Coming off a disappointing result against Woodville, we were looking to bounce back against Norwood. Unfortunately, we again had some important outs, with Tabby Saville missing the game and Ella Maxwell injuring her quad in her SANFLW debut meant we again were relying on our depth through Development Squad to fill some spaces in our League team. We brought in Saraid Kustermann who has been impressive in the Development Squad to play alongside sister Keeley, and Steph Tredwell returned to the side after being rested the previous week.
The game started similarly to the previous week, where we hit we came out the gates quickly and kicked the first 2 scores of the game, both being behinds. Norwood piled on 2 quick goals before we were able to steady with a goal from Steph Walker late in the quarter.
The 2nd quarter turned into a shootout, Norwood hit the scoreboard first and we were able to reply quickly with a Lauren Young kicking a set shot of a perfect assist by Iilish Ross, and Steph Tredwell ran around the mark to kick our 2nd of the quarter. Norwood took a 2-point lead into half time.
Norwood kicked the first of the 3rd to put them up by 8-points early in the 3rd. After that point, there were no more goals kicked after that point. We managed to keep Norwood scoreless in the last quarter but were wasteful with our opportunities and finished the game 6-points down.
Zoe Venning continued her good form picking up a game high 32 disposals and Keeley Kustermann had a dominant performance picking up 27 disposals. Milli Gentle, Iilish Ross, Steph Tredwell and Ruby Ballard all battled hard all day while there were some other solid performances across the ground, we weren’t able to get across the line.
We look forward to taking on Centrals this weekend in our last home game for the year on Easter Saturday. We are looking forward to welcoming back a couple big inclusions this weekend to hopefully push for our 3rd win of the season.
