Round 4 saw us back up against South on Friday night at home which meant the week looked a lot different for the reserves group than normal, especially with the League team playing on the Sunday.
Both teams had some changes from the previous week and we knew that South would be out for revenge after last week’s result.
Our focus area’s for the game were based around contested ball numbers and our ball movement with both of these area’s helping us get the win the week before.
The first half was a real arm wrestle early with both teams playing a strong physical brand of football in the slippery conditions. As the second quarter started I felt we went away from our focus area’s and started to be more reactive than proactive which allowed South to kick 4 unanswered goals. We managed to correct this late in the quarter and drag a couple goals back which saw us behind by 12 points at the main break.
We started the third quarter as we finished the first half and managed to get back on level terms before we our intensity in the contest dropped again late in the quarter allowing South to get back out to a 13 point lead at the last break.
This group has a never say die attitude and it was on display again this week, our work rate and willingness to support our team mates late in the game was exceptional and unfortunately we ran out of time with the game ending in a draw.
Lachie Squire and Hamish Ellem lead from the front all day and were a big part of why we got back into the game. Lachie Tredwell continues to improve every week and was solid down back once again, and Jordan Boyle continues to find a lot of the football and help set us up from half back.
Another good test for this young group heading out to Elizabeth to take on an in form Central team, we are up for the challenge and look forward to continuing to improve and learn each week.
