We had the second of our three Friday nights to start the year last week.
Just like in Round 1, we started very well. Our pressure around the ball was up and we were getting a lot of repeat entries through good defensive setups and mid intercepts.
We went into the half time with a three goal lead and felt that we were playing our brand of football for most part of the first half.
Centrals increased their work rate and got their rebound game going in the third quarter which we struggled to stop their chain outs from our front half.
Our defence were able to hold up and centrals missed a few shots on goal, so we still held a 3-goal lead going into the last quarter.
We were able to get a lot of the game played in our front half in the final term but again struggled to stop Central’s rebound and handball chains from our forward 50. They played fast footy and in moments our boy’s lossed a bit of composure and execution with skills which eventually led to the game being a draw with a minute to go.
In the last minute I thought our players executed our structure and setup in the “win the game” mode with the ball being kept in our front half for the last minute, again just lacked that last bit of skill execution to finish off our good work.
With this group so young and developing, we will learn from the last quarter, and moments where we would like our time again. We will educate during the week and be better for it the next time we are in a similar scenario.
There is so many positive signs with this group and the boys are understanding, learning and executing our system and the way we want to play for the majority of game.
Thank you to everyone who came out last week and to the Senior Coaches who help with the runner duties and stats.
We have our third Friday night game this week against Norwood at home. A really good test for our boys and we are looking forward to seeing how we go.
