Taking on ladder leaders Glenelg on there home deck was always going to be a challenge for our young group but there was a real excitement leading into the game with 4 of our u18s squad getting the chance to step up to senior football due to our large injury list in the senior squad.
And the boys brought this energy and excitement into the game as our contest work and pressure on the opposition was as good as it had been in the first half. Besides a couple lapses in concentration defensively and some poor decisions going forward I felt we had the better of Glenelg and could have gone into half time with a lead.
The boys were up for the fight and as Glenelg started to get on top in the third quarter our boys kept the pressure on and we were able to stay in the game without taking our chances with ball in hand.
Unfortunately, we were unable to stay at this level for 4 quarters, and once Glenelg kicked a couple early goals in the last quarter we were unable to respond and Glenelg controlled the game.
Jordan White had his first game as a midfielder and led the way with his contested work and running patterns to have 14 tackles. Dylan White had his best game for the year and has settled in very well down back since moving there a month ago. We also got to see Judd Hansen from our Riverland zone play his first reserves game and showed us why we are all excited to see his progress to senior football next season.
Another good opportunity to continue to learn and grow this week as we head to Noarlunga to take on South who we had a couple of great games against earlier in the season.
