ASSISTANT COACH

ROLE DESCRIPTION

 

Role Title U18 Assistant Coach – West Adelaide Football Club
Role Type Volunteer – Honorarium
Key Objectives 1.       To assist in the identification of talented players with the overall vision of future senior footballers at the club

2.       To assist the U18 head coach to implement a professional football program that caters for both individual and team development

3.       To provide regular feedback to players on their individual development and progression – highlighting both their strengths and their focus (growth) areas

U18 ASSISTANT COACH – WEST ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB

ROLE DESCRIPTION

 INTRODUCTION

 The role of U18 Assistant Coach is in place to ensure the Centre of Excellence (U18 Boys) is operating at a high standard and is well-known throughout the community as being a program that players should be striving to be involved in. The overall aim of the role is to enhance the development experience for players involved in the program.

 KEY TASKS FOR U18 ASSISTANT COACH

 

Pre-Season

    1. Be available to attend training a minimum of 2 sessions per week per week (Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings) and assume some responsibility for activities at those sessions, under the guidance of the head coach
    2. Oversee a specific group of players and get to know them as much as possible to assist with the overall selection of squads and teams throughout the program
    3. Be available to travel to the Riverland for a camp for 3 days in February and, if required, drive a mini-bus there with a group of players
    4. Be available to travel to a regional area for a trial match in pre-season, if required
    5. Attend selection meetings with the head coach and Talent Manager to provide input in to the direction of the squad for the upcoming season
    6. Attend a player and parent information night in November to meet everyone and assist with the introduction of the program

 

In-Season

    1. Be available to attend training (minimum Tuesday, main session) and assume some responsibility for activities at those sessions, under the guidance of the head coach
    2. Conduct a weekly review (Sunday or Monday evening) via phone/online with your line group to highlight positives, growth areas and direction for the upcoming week
    3. Provide opportunities for players from your line group to receive individual video feedback throughout the season (minimum of 2 players per week)
    4. Assume responsibility for a line-group and coach them during allocated time through specifics of their position to prepare them for games
    5. On game day, specifically watch your line and provide ongoing feedback to them throughout the match. Provide feedback to the head coach that is relevant to your line and you feel may benefit the overall team
    6. Ensure you compile individual player feedback for every player in your line (paragraph or dot points) highlighting things they have performed well and also focus/growth areas. This feedback must be sent to the head coach no later than the Monday evening after each match so that it can be distributed to the team in preparation for the upcoming week

 

Post-Season

    1. Attend the end-of-season presentation night and assist with the presentation of awards as appropriate
    2. Attend a review meeting with all U18 staff to assess season and suggested direction moving forward
    3. Attend a review meeting with the Talent Manager to receive feedback and also provide suggestions for future program development

 PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

 To be considered suitable for this role the below criteria must be met:

  • Currently hold or be willing to obtain a DCSI working with children check
  • Hold a full drivers licence and have access to a suitable vehicle to be able to travel to events
  • Be available on weekends and after-hours as required to assist with events. Notice will be given as to when these will occur
  • Accredited Level 2 Australian Rules Football coach (minimum) or be willing to complete requirements for accreditation
