Intent and effort were the focuses leading into our R8 contest v Sturt at Unley.
We started the game well, kicking 4 goals to 1 in the first quarter with Michael Laudato and Josh Gore setting the tone with two goals apiece.
Our second quarter was one of missed opportunities. We failed to connect cleanly through our attacking half and when we did go inside F50, we made fundamental errors which would later prove costly.
The second half was played more on Sturt’s term. Our ball movement was slowed and we got caught up in a stoppage game (+21 stoppages in the second half compared to the first half) and territory was hard to come by.
After falling ten points behind in the final term, we were able to give ourselves an opportunity to win the game with repeat F50 entries and stoppages. Unfortunately we fell by 4 points.
There were again lots of positives to take away from the game as our defensive system continues to develop. There’s also a lot we can learn from the way Sturt played and their ability to execute for longer.
Our Midfield Group with the addition of Dylan Bramich, Sam Frost and Mick Mattingly over recent weeks is developing nicely and growing with confidence and connection the more they play together.
I loved the games of Dylan McCormick and our debutant Harvey Bock. Two juniors of our club who are our future.
Overall I’m quite happy with how the squad is developing. We have genuine pressure each week for spots at senior level from players within our Reserves grade who are performing well.
Finally, I’d like to pass my condolences on to the family and friends of one of our young guns Jye Sinderberry, whose grandfather Bruce Evans, a prominent football figure suddenly passed away late last week.
