This week saw our senior men’s side take on top-of-the-table Central District on our home deck, Hisense Stadium. Lucas Meline’s late withdrawal saw Riverland product Judd Hansen brought into the side to make his League debut, joining Alex Morgan from BSR Tigers who was also set to make his League debut. After a pleasing performance the week prior against South Adelaide, we looked forward to taking our form into the contest against Central District, a team that we respect in terms of their consistency in each phase of the game.
We were competitive all day – but lapses in concentration; how we used the ball, absorbing opposition pressure, setting up structures, plus some ill-discipline (4 of Centrals goals coming from free kicks against) resulted in a final margin of 21 points in Centrals favour.
With our defence under immense pressure for much of the day (-20 F50 Entries), we were still able to restrict Centrals to 66 points. Unfortunately, we were unable / reluctant to take territory the other way when it presented and found it difficult to pierce Centrals stingy defence and kick a winning score.
Jesse Thackeray and Jordan White competed strongly and laid 25 Tackles between them. Sam Frost is playing consistently well across Half Back. Brady Searle had some positive moments through the Midfield, and I thought Liam Delahunty played his best, most rounded game of League Football.
We look forward to taking on last year’s Premiership winning team, Glenelg this week down at Stratarama Stadium. An important fixture given where we want to head as a senior group in 2024. I look forward to seeing many of our supporters there on Saturday.
Best: Liam Delahunty, Brady Searle, Jordan White
Goals: L. Delahunty (3), M. Laudato, A. Morgan, J. White (1)
