A lackluster first half proved costly in the senior side’s 17-point loss to Port Adelaide in Loxton.
We knew the importance of the game for the Port Adelaide Football Club, a game that honors a club great and a legend of Australian Rules Football. We knew we needed to absorb pressure and remain cool and calm with ball in hand. For the first two quarters we were unable to do that.
In the first half we were comprehensively beaten in the contest and at stoppage and went into the half time break 46 points down. To the players credit they were able to regroup and with a couple of adjustments to structures and tactics we were able to get ourselves back into the game. Contested possession improved as did our stoppage work. Some more composure going inside F50 in the final quarter could’ve tightened the margin even more, but ultimately a poor first half brought us undone.
I thought Josh Ryan and Kane Sherlock again defended strongly. Dylan Bramich was competitive in the Ruck and showed he can play at this level. Mick Mattingly worked tirelessly on the ball and Liam Delahunty maintained his good form kicking another 4 goals.
Unfortunate injuries to both Sam May and Dylan Bramich mean they will miss some time.
Again, thank you to all our amazing supporters and members who made the trip to the Riverland.
We now shift our focus to Centrals this Saturday.
Best: Liam Delahunty, Josh Ryan, Kane Sherlock
Goals: L.Delahunty (4), J.Gore (4), I.Johnson, K.Ryan (1)
