Our leadership groups have been consistent over the past few months in communicating via Zoom meetings between each other, and with the coaches (via Gavin) and football administration personnel (via Wayne and Derek). Communication is possibly the most important aspect within teams of people. I say leadership teams because we now have established an “Emerging Leaders” group, and brought in former SANFL player Joe Pedlar to oversee their development. This group has been identified as those who are showing strong signs of already advanced leadership, and who we believe will have a huge impact on the club, this year and for the future. Each fortnight a member of the emerging leaders joins the “senior” leadership group, and vice versa, a “senior” leadership group member joins the emerging leaders meeting. This is to facilitate communication, and to further advance the leadership growth of all involved.
Lastly, we had former Collingwood Captain (and current Collingwood leadership and culture coach) as our special guest last week, discussing leadership with both our leadership groups. He covered many issues and challenges commonly faced by football teams, and his examples, tips, and advice was greatly appreciated. Thanks to Wayne for using his personal connection with the Collingwood Football Club to organise the session.
I think we went into the “covid” period well advanced with our leadership and culture for the men’s senior and development teams, and this should position us strongly in managing our approach in the re-commencement of the season. Looking forward to some on-field football action!
