Coming into Round 4, the team was focused on building upon our previous performances, particularly against a strong Centrals side.
This match was easily our best as a group to date. The growth and improvement from Round 1 to Round 4 is clear, and the belief within the group is growing stronger each week.
Although we narrowly went down by five points, the game showcased just how much this team loves playing for one another. When that first win comes, it will be a special moment that means a lot to this group.
The opening quarter saw a slow start from us, with Centrals kicking the first few goals. Despite this, we responded well and managed to put some of our own on the board. We ended the first quarter trailing by four goals, but it was from this point that the team’s resilience really showed Throughout the second and third quarters, we clawed our way back into the game, eventually hitting the lead by three-quarter time.
A major highlight during this period was the debut of Hallam Chitty for Westies, who returned to Wheelchair football after more than 18 months away. His impact was immediate, and it looked as though he hadn’t missed a beat.
The final quarter was a thrilling contest, with both teams trading goals in a back-and-forth battle. Ultimately, we fell just short, losing by less than a goal. While our inaccuracy in front of goal may have proved costly, there were plenty of positives to take away.
We created those scoring chances through the strong link-up play we’ve been developing at training and a clear sign that the team is heading in the right direction to find that illustrious first win.
