West Adelaide 3.6.24
Eagles 20.7.127
Coming into Round 8 against the top of the table Eagles, we were hit with some tough news, losing our main centre Darren for the rest of the season. Darren has been a key part of our game plan and he will be hard to replace.
The Eagles started hot, piling on 5 goals in the first 5 minutes of the opening quarter. To the team’s credit, we didn’t drop our heads and fought hard to steady, restricting them to just 1 goal in the final 5 minutes of the term.
The second quarter was another strong defensive effort, holding the Eagles to only 3 goals while keeping ourselves in the contest. By halftime we were 42 points down, but if you take away that first 5-minute burst, from then on the Eagles only outscored us 27 to 15.
In the second half, the Eagles began to pull away, especially late in the last quarter, while we found it tough to hit the scoreboard. The final margin was a 103-point loss, but the team walked away feeling the scoreboard didn’t reflect the effort and fight we showed throughout the game.
With just two matches left in our inaugural year, the goal remains to chase that first win but just as importantly, to enjoy the last two games together and have fun as a team.
