After a disappointing 4 weeks in terms of win/losses we approached the game with a focus on a complete 4 quarter game. During the last month we still showed so many signs of us playing some good footy and improving as a group but not being able to find a win.
Our focus pregame was to give ourselves a reminder of what our best footy looks like and what makes us a great group. We knew we’d have to be able to perform at a high level for long periods against Central Districts as they are a side that will never quit and just hand you a win.
Throughout the fist half we felt we played some good footy and some of the best we’ve seen over the last month, multiple times getting out to a nice lead, only to let Centrals back into the contest with some critical errors at some bad times.
As per usual throughout this year the boys in the reserves have shown their ability to fight and never give in, with the last 5 minutes spending a lot of time in the opposition forward half the boys stood up and scratched out a result to come away with a 1 point victory.
Although it was only a narrow win, we showed some really good signs that our best footy is on the way back, but also showed us our ability to remain consistent for longer periods is a growth area for the group.
We had many good players across the day with boys playing their roles for the team. Harvey Bock was a clear best on ground with a shut down performance on a very good player. Cooper Patterson was fantastic down back and played his best game of the year. Blair Rubock looked lively up forward with great work rate and forward half pressure. Bailey Chamberlain was fantastic on the wing and set the game up early.
It was great to get back on the winners list and see the boys smiling again, they’ve worked extremely hard to get back into their best form and we look forward to continuing it on Friday night against North Adelaide. Thanks to all the supporters who came out, we appreciate the support.
