Our Development Team faced Sturt in round 3 this week after extreme heat the week before postponed our round 2 game against North Adelaide.
Our side was strengthened by the return of Paris Francis, Kendell Saffin and Sarah Campbell from injury and saw first gamers in Baylee Cooper, Sienna Aldridge and Izzi Trimboli take their place in senior football.
We felt well prepared for the game and were very determined to turn around our poor performance in round one. The first half had both teams display numerous skill errors and failing to capitalise on scoring opportunities seeing Sturt enter the main break leading by 5 points and us only scoring one goal for the half.
As a team we were extremely frustrated with our poor ball use and focused our attention on improving this in the second half.
We controlled the third quarter, maintaining constant pressure on the opposition and finally getting some reward for effort late in the quarter with two goals from Paris Francis and Abby Brenton, to lead by 11 points.
Our ruck Abby Brenton was playing her best game for the club and our midfield led by Molly Petersen, Sarah Campbell and Annie Brearley were winning plenty of football.
Forward we were creating opportunities with Nicola Biagi, Kendell Saffin and Paris Francis and our defence with Milli Gentle, Phillipa Worthley and our young ones in Sienna Aldridge and Baylee Cooper started to take control.
With some increased confidence leading into the last quarter, we pressed home the advantage with great goals from Nicola Biagi and Jasmine White and Izzy Rawley taking a wonderful overhead mark, playing on and slotting a goal from just inside fifty.
The game was definitely played in two halves with us scoring 5.6 to Sturt 0.1 in the second half.
We need to ensure that that we are on for all four quarters next week when we meet a strong Glenelg side.
Final scores: West 6.9. 45 defeated Sturt 2.3. 15
