Due to the recent rain events our round 13 game was moved from Unley to Thebarton oval.
The first quarter saw a very even contest with good ball movement from both sides. Our intent was strong with good contributions from all players, through a focus on team play and going forward with ball in hand. When the siren went to end the first quarter scores were tied at 2.3 apiece.
In the second quarter we got away to a good start kicking the first goal of the term. We continued to battle hard, but Sturt created more scoring opportunities and producing a 3-goal lead late in the quarter. But we kept ourselves in the game with a late goal from fast ball movement from our back half. At the half time break the scoreboard read 6.9 to 4.4.
The second half, we again competed but didn’t execute our fundamentals well enough under pressure and gave up some easy goals from turnovers. Whilst at 3 quarter time we were 9 goals down, what was pleasing was the effort shown in the last quarter and to play the game out with a focus on our process, rather than the result.
Midfielder Sam Burbridge put in another strong performance picking up 32 disposals with Riley Hill playing his role well all game. Kade Hilton who played as a deeper forward this week was also good winning his 1 on 1 contests and applying some forward line pressure.
This week we make the drive to X Convenience oval to take on the ladder leaders Central Districts. This will be another opportunity to test our fundamentals under pressure and look to execute the process for longer.
Best: Sam Burbridge, Riley Hill, Kade Hilton, Oscar Talbot and Bailee Gilbert.
Goals: Judd Hansen, Kade Hilton, Jonty Koehne, Bailey White (1)
