Round 4 saw us travel to Woodville to play the Eagles under lights. We know the Eagles are always a tricky matchup and they had some key ins for the clash. Jaden Ward and Fraser Bone were included in our side for their first games of Under-18 football.
The first half was a tight contest. Both sides were able to move the ball freely and create scoring opportunities. The Eagles were very accurate in front of goal and held a 9-point lead at the main break, as we kicked an inaccurate 4.9
I reinforced to our players at the break that we were playing good football and we didn’t need to panic or change anything dramatically. I did ask for a slight lift in instinct and for them to play with a bit more flair and freedom to get the ball moving a bit quicker in our forward half. The boys responded well and their second half was super impressive. Some of our ball movement was the best I’ve seen this year but equally important was our willingness to compete and win or at least neutralize the contested ball.
Overall a pleasing 11 point win where the boys again had to display some resilience and keep fighting to come back after being headed in the first half.
Tom Scully continued his impressive form kicking another 7 goals. Kobe Ryan played his best game of the year with 33 disposals and 2 goals. Adam Bunworth led the tackle count with 7 and Harry Barnett was the dominant ruckman on the ground with 25 hitouts.
This Friday night we play Norwood for the second time this year at home, first bounce at 7:30pm. Our round 1 match was a good contest with them and our boys are looking forward to the challenge.
