Coming into Round 7, we were confident we could match it with Centrals and were hopeful of getting that first win on the board. Although we lost captain Jake Bilsborrow earlier in the week, we welcomed back Tony Wade after a few weeks away.
Unfortunately, the first half was one to forget. We didn’t start switched on in the opening quarter, which led to a few easy goals for Centrals, and the same trend carried into the second term. Frustration started to creep in, and we drifted away from our play style. We tried to match their pace with longer kicks, which resulted in turnovers.
A big positive, however, was the resilience we showed in the second half. Ignoring the scoreboard, we battled on and returned to playing our brand of footy. It proved that when we buy into our style, we can compete with the best. Our link-up play from the back half to the forward line was some of the best we’ve produced all year.
Once again, our goal kicking let us down. 14 scoring shots for 6 goals, 8 behinds, and 2 out on the full, while Centrals were clinical, finishing with 12 goals, 6 behinds. The team will keep putting in the work at training, and there’s no doubt that elusive first win is just around the corner.
