West Adelaide 5.6 (36) def. South Adelaide 3.7 (25)
Sometimes you are just happy to walk away with the points from a scrappy game and nothing could be more true than our round 11 match against South Adelaide. Greeted by strong winds, heavy rain and a flooded coaches box, this was always going to be a messy game and what followed came as no surprise.
The game was very low in terms of disposals and it was tough to get any clean chain of play going. Goals were at a premium and most of the match was played in-between the 50-metre arcs. A strong wind blowing towards the outer side meant the ball was trapped over there for long periods of time and it was hard to gain any momentum.
The most impressive aspect of this match was our attack on the football and our defensive pressure. Incredibly the team laid 145 tackles for the match, led by Joel Groom with 20 and Bailey Chamberlain with 17. Jason Westley was dominant in the middle with 12 clearances whilst Beau Nunan made the most of his chance up forward with 3 goals.
There isn’t an amazing highlight reel from this match but I must commend the group on the way they went about things in tough conditions. It would have been easy for them to decide it was all too hard but we have a group this year that refuse to do that.
This coming week we return home to face Norwood in another important match. I look forward to seeing our group continue their hard work as a self-driven team who want to be the best they can be. The match is at City Mazda Stadium at 11am on Saturday. With the reserves and league both playing Sunday it would be great to see as much support at our game as possible.
