This week West Adelaide’s women’s team had a convincing win against Glenelg.
7-3 45 | 2-7 19
Our tackle pressure has been great and this is highlighted again in the stats, winning the tackles 77 to 74 – the third week in a row we have been in front on the tackle count. There has been a great ‘whole team’ approach to tackling. One player who really stands out though is Rachelle Martin who had an outstanding game. Rachelle had 26 disposals (13 kicks and 13 handballs), kicked one goal and laid an amazing 15 tackles.
We had more disposals than the opposition and we have importantly increased our kick-to- handball ratio. We displayed a great defence-first attitude, tackling, spoiling, smothering and blocking which was exemplified by Lauren Rodato’s work in defence and Melanie Elsegood’s defensive marking.
Our goal kicking was also great, making the most of our opportunities by being efficient with our inside 50s. The progress our younger players are making is incredibly exciting. Abbie Ballard, Jamie Tabb, Phoebe Edwards and Emma Smith are doing very well; Emma’s last quarter goal was very exciting. Our defensive running is certainly making progress which is highlighted by our rebound 50s. The premiership ladder shows that the next two games are incredibly important to our finals ambitions. We appreciate everyone’s support. Go Bloods
