West Adelaide captain Alli Evans has revealed the Bloods overcame self-doubt to secure their first win in the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League on Saturday.
Having gone through last year’s inaugural competition without registering a victory, Evans confirmed there was some uncertainty heading into the clash against Sturt at City Mazda Stadium.
But West’s star skipper was determined to ”set the tone” while chalking up 21 disposals, nine marks, four tackles and two goals to ensure the Double Blues would begin their inaugural campaign with a 30-point loss.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Evans also hailed the performances of Rachelle Martin and Nicole Hooper, the latter remarkably registering 18 disposals, four marks and a goal playing her first game of Australian Football.
West will now turn its attention to its Round 2 contest against 2017 premier Norwood, with the anticipated match-up being the third of a triple-header at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday.
