On Monday night, all current listed players were asked to vote for their top five team leaders. The coaching group added their thoughts with consideration of current and future leadership requirements.
Tom Keough has been named West Adelaide Football Club’s Captain for season 2018. Originally from the Mallee, Tom came to Westies through our junior ranks to go on to play 73 league matches and kicked 27 goals. The skillful defender played an integral part in our 2015 Premiership, before being drafted to the Gold Coast Suns. Tom struggled with injury and returned to Westies in 2017. Tom is looked up to and highly respected by all the playing group and the entire club and will make a fantastic captain. Tom will be the clubs 55th captain.
Following another standout 2017 season, being given the President’s Award and being the runner up for the Neil Kerley Medal, Logan Hill was elevated to vice-captain for 2018.
Kaine Stevens was voted as deputy vice-captain after winning the Neil Kerely Medal and being named in the SANFL Team of the Year.
Jack Agostino and Jono Beech have also been included in West Adelaide’s 2018 senior leadership group.
New to the leadership group is 21 year old Jack Agostino. Jack was awarded with the Grantley Fielke award for a player who displays outstanding leadership and work ethic in 2017.
Agostino and Beech join newly appointed Captain Tom Keough, Logan Hill, Kaine Stevens, Jason Porplyzia and Shannon Green in the seven-person group voted by the players and endorsed by key personnel at the Club.
Long serving players Jono Beech, Shannon Green and Jason Porplyzia bring with them their experience and personal traits that make them well suited for this position.
West Adelaide Senior Coach Gavin Colville praised the seven player leadership group.
