Since the appointment of Gavin Colville as senior coach there has been a number of changes to staff within the football department.
The league team has two new assistant coaches: Brent Frewen and Ben Yeomans.
Brent Frewen hails from Melbourne where he spent two years in the AFL system with Fitzroy and Richmond before making his way to Adelaide to play with the Woodville-West Torrens FC (1998-2006). Since retiring from SANFL Brent has played and assistant coached in country and amateur football and also spent time living overseas in Canada and New Zealand.
Ben Yeomans has joined the Bloods this season after returning from his time in the Royal Australian Regiment. Ben spent 2009 at South Adelaide and 2011 at Port Adelaide in the SANFL before deciding to join the Military. Whilst serving Ben developed a passion for coaching and was involved in several national football teams as both player and coach, such as the Indigenous ADF side, the Australian Army football side and the Australian Defense Force side.
West Adelaide is also pleased to announce the appointment of Damian Minervini as the coach of the Development Team (Reserves). Damian comes to us from the Plympton Football Club where he spent the last 5 years as A Grade coach. Damian has held a number of coaching roles within the SA Amateur League and has previously been Reserves Coach at South Adelaide. Damian also spent some time in recruiting for Geelong. He has a passion for leadership and player development which we believe will assist the club in this area.
At this stage Damian will have Oscar Oliver Dearman and Harry Georgiou as his assistants, both of whom were involved last year.
As mentioned previously Paul Streatfield is our Under 18 coach. He has brought with him Stuart Burns as an assistant.
Stuart comes to us from Norwood Football Club where he has worked as a midfield assistant. He has a wide range of experience from coaching elite school level football to working with players at Under 18 and First XVIII level. Outside of football, Stuart works as Deputy Principal of Upper Primary at Westminster School.
James Lyon and Andrew Forrest continue in their roles as assistant coaches.
The Under 16s positions remain the same with Naomi Maidment the coach and her assistants Michael Wakim and Daniel Richardson.
The women’s team is also training extremely hard with their season starting on February 3rd.
The senior coach has been announced and the assistant coaches are doing an amazing job.
Shane Moon who is well known around West Adelaide with his previous involvement is once again an assistant for the women’s team.
Laura Heinrich is the Health and PE co-ordinator at St Mary’s College. She has a background in coaching netball. St Mary’s is a keen participant in SANFL football programs each year, which has helped develop a relationship between St Mary’s and West Adelaide.
Janet Bradley is a HPE teacher at Blackwood High School. As part of this role she initiated a specialist Girls Footy class in 2017 that runs for a semester each year. Janet teaches this class alongside the boys specialist footy class run by ex-West Adelaide junior coach, Glen Little.
